CHARLOTTE -- People will get to weigh in on a proposal to transform Eastland Mall into a movie studio. In July, the city of Charlotte bought the 80 acre property in hopes of transforming it into a state-of-the-art TV and movie studio. Thursday night people can take a look at one proposal for the mall property.
It's been more than two years since people were able to shop in Eastland Mall. But city leaders hope redevelopment of this property will mean more jobs, more partnerships and, of course, more movies.
Charlotte East Community Partners will host the president of Central Avenue Studios, who will present his proposal to bring a full service movie production facility to the Eastland site. It's one of many film studios showing interest in the city, according to city officials.
One filmmaker believes it's a good idea, but said it will take a lot of support.
"A lot of elements have to come to fruition, we have to get city, other prods behind us, other studios to help market the studio," said Evan Hessee. "It's a Disneyland for move making. It's gonna be a lot of people that have to get behind it. "
Thursday night's meeting will be at Hickory Grove Recreation Center on Pence Road. That meeting is from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
