CHARLOTTE -- The race for governor comes to Charlotte Tuesday. Republican Pat McCrory and Democrat Walter Dalton will outline their economic plans in North Carolina. They will both speak to the North Carolina Technology Association Conference.

All of the latest polling puts McCrory ahead of Dalton. A survey by Democratic firm Public Policy Polling in Raleigh has the former Charlotte mayor up by six percentage points. But a Rasmussen survey pegs that gap as large as 12 points.

The candidates are expected to lay out competing visions to jump start North Carolina's economy and create jobs here.

All of this comes against the backdrop of a struggling economy. North Carolina has the worst unemployment rate in the southeast. We'll get another check of the state's jobless numbers on Friday, but analysts don't expect them to change much between now and Election Day.
