Gov. Bev Perdue will speak at the Democratic National Convention next month.

A convention official said the governor will keep with tradition and welcome the delegates to North Carolina.

Also, former President Jimmy Carter will speak on Tuesday night, via video, in prime time. He will speak about President Barack Obama's foreign affairs credentials, but will not attend the convention, according to a release.
