RALEIGH – A permanent marker has been placed on the grave of Elizabeth Edwards.
Crews installed a marble footstone last week at Raleigh's Oakwood Cemetery for the deceased wife of former Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards.
The marker was commissioned by Edwards' siblings. It is carved with lyrics from a Leonard Cohen song she placed on her kitchen wall right before she died of cancer in December 2010.
The sculptor who chiseled the angel for the grave of her 16-year-old son Wade still plans to create a more elaborate headstone for her grave.
The Associated Press reported in June that people touring the historic cemetery had expressed concern that Edwards did not yet have a stone so long after her death.
