First Aid By American Red Cross

You have apps for entertainment, productivity, finding what you need, but every once in a while one comes along that could actually save your life, or help you help save someone else's life. At it's core, the American Red Cross' First Aid app is probably what you would imagine it to be. Look up an emergency anything from a cut to a burn to a heart attack, and it tells you, in some cases shows you, step by step what to do. Within those steps there's also a button to instantly call 911. Two other modes, so to speak, include a test mode to see how much you've learned. There's also a preparation mode which offers up checklists for how to prepare for catastrophes like earthquakes or floods. The American Red Cross' First Aid app is free for iOS and Android devices.

Carat

And think of this one as kinda like first aid for you mobile device. It's called Carat and once you install it it starts to analyze your device and the apps you're using then tells you which apps are hogging your battery life then offers tips on how to make that battery last longer. It can even tell which apps are malfunctioning and need to be reinstalled. This one, created by some computer whizzes at UC Berkeley, does collect data though it says anonymously, in order to see how your apps are behaving compared to the same apps on other people's devices. Carat is also a free app and also for iOS and Android devices.
