RALEIGH – The controversial method of drilling for natural gas could soon be legalized in our state. The senate passed a bill Thursday which would allow hydro-fracking.

The method has drawn harsh critics, who said that this will harm the environment and violate private property rights. Supporters said that it will create jobs and allow North Carolina to use domestic energies.

"Our small businesses and our citizens will have a reliable and an affordable source of energy which is critical to the movement and the growth of the economy," said Republican Senator Bob Rucho.

"The bad thing about that whole bill is that you're turning over an individuals property rights to the gas and oil industry," said Democrat Representative Bill Faison.

The decision lies in the hands of the governor, who has ten days to approve or veto the bill.
