TARBORO, N.C. -- Tarboro High School senior Todd Gurley, one of the top high school football players in the country, officially committed to the University of Georgia Friday. The running back had narrowed his choice down to a final four of North Carolina, Georgia, Clemson and N.C. State.
Gurley, who racked up 2,500 yards rushing and 38 touchdowns this season, led the Vikings to their third state championship in the last four years.
He cited UNC's turbulent off-season as a major factor in his decision. Gurley said Georgia's family atmosphere and welcoming coaching staff made the distance from home much easier.
