WILMINGTON -- Wilmington City Council members are expected to vote Tuesday night on an agreement with Mandalay Baseball and the Atlanta Braves to build a minor league baseball stadium downtown.
Last week, Mayor Bill Saffo and council members announced they reached a deal outlining terms for a 20-year collaboration to build and operate a baseball facility.
The deal hinges on the passing of a $37 million bond referendum to pay for the cost of the stadium and land. That will be decided by voters in November.
If approved, the city would pay for the bonds with a two and a half cent property tax increase.
