JACKSONVILLE, N.C.--Some city workers in Jacksonville are getting an earlier start to their work to help beat the heat.
Crews from the streets department are beginning their days earlier so they are off work by the time the hottest hours of the day roll around.
The city's sanitation department started picking up trash an hour earlier last month.
City officials say there aren't any service interruptions associated with the early start, but residents should be mindful of it when putting their trash out for pickup.
"If we're starting pickup earlier that means that residents have to get their recycling, trash and yard waste out at curbside early in the morning,” said Deputy City Manager Ron Massey.
This is the third summer the Jacksonville Sanitation Department has begun an early start.
The earlier summer scheduling has become a regular seasonal practice.
