GREENSBORO -- It has been four days equalling over 20 hours of jury deliberations and still no verdict.

According to former federal prosecutor Kieran Shanahan, it's anybody's guess as to what is going on behind closed doors, but the fact that this is the first day the jury has not requested new exhibits, could mean the jury is stuck.

Former presidential candidate John Edwards and his family arrived at court for the fourth day of jury deliberations. There's not sign of a verdict yet, which means there could be some disagreement among the jurors.

"Either they're still stuck on the Bunny Mellon counts or they've moved on, but we just don't know," Shanahan said.

So far the jurors have requested exhibits all relating to Edwards' benefactor, heiress Bunny Mellon. In order for the jury to reach a verdict on the second and third charges relating to Mellon, the jury must decide if the money she gave were campaign contributions.

"If they've moved on, perhaps they'd ask for more documents," Shanahan said.

Before the trial started Edwards had a chance for a plea deal.

"Plea to a felony, but avoid jail time and the one most talked about was to plead to a misdemeanor and do at least six months active jail time," Shanahan said. "Perhaps in the thoughts of John Edwards is having, should I, should I not have?"

For now Edwards can only sit and wait for the jury to make a decision.

If the jury brings back a guilty verdict for any of the six charges brought against him, he could lose his license to practice law. For each charge he is convicted he could pay a fine of $250,000 and service up to five years behind bars.
