GREENSBORO— Prosecutors rest their case Thursday in the John Edwards campaign finance trial.

The prosecution's last piece of evidence was a video they played of Edward's first television interview admitting to the affair, but continuing to lie about his child and his knowledge of the money used to support his mistress Rielle Hunter.

He also denied ever knowing his campaign finance manager, Fred Baron, was paying to support Hunter.

"In the case with John Edwards repeating all the lies on national television, the look on the juror's faces, they're scribbling notes as it happens and John Edwards head was down and it was very dramatic," said former federal prosecutor Kieran Shanahan.

The prosecution called three witnesses to the stand on Thursday. Edwards' former economic policy advisor, Leo Hindery, testified about trying to help Edwards get elected into office with either Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton, after stories of an affair and child were already published in the National Enquirer.

The other two witnesses were agents with the FBI, who went over phone records, wire transfers, bank statements and bills.

"I think that there's still some significant legal issues in this case," Shanahan said. "No matter what the outcome is whether or not you ask a third party to pay the debt of another third party, is that really a violation of the campaign finance laws?"

The defense will begin calling witnesses on Monday and those witnesses will be announced Friday.
