NEW BERN — Severe weather early Thursday morning left its mark in New Bern.

Officials say they responded to a downed tree on Pelican Drive just after 2 a.m. and found a car crushed. The owner is new to the area and it's her first brush with severe weather.

"I've never, never, never been through this. I'm from California so I've been through an earthquake but never anything like this. It sounded like a train was coming through here. It was awful and the lights went out, we were terrified,” said New Bern resident Bryana Webster.

In that same neighborhood a tree fell on this home on Caracara Drive creating a 9 foot hole in the roof. Firefighters put the tarp on the roof to keep last nights rain from flowing into the house.

No one was injured in either incident.
