RALEIGH--The season of giving marks the end of tax-deductible donations for the year.

Non-profit organizations are seeing an increase as people try to donate before the December 31 deadline.

Sylvia Wiggins is the Executive Director of the Helping Hands Mission in Raleigh. She said she's been busy sifting through piles upon piles of donations every day.

Items include Christmas gifts, but also household materials and clothing.

Financial planner Alain Borthayre said it's important to keep track of your records.

“The IRS requires you have records, cash, check, bank statements, credit card statements also,” he said.

Also, make sure that the items you are donated are in good condition.

“If you donate a table or chairs, or stuff like that it would be nice if they are appraised by someone,” Borthayre said.

If you are donating items, fill out and file paperwork and that you are donating to a 501(C)(3) organization.
