WILMINGTON – A group opposed to a new baseball stadium in Wilmington expressed their concerns about the city's agreement with the Braves and Mandalay on Thursday.

Armed with signs, the Vote No Stadium Tax group said residents should vote against the bond referendum in November. They say the 2.5-cent tax increase should be put towards improving roads and schools.

They argue the increase will hurt seniors on a fixed income as well as families and small businesses.

"Some people talk about how $25 is a drop in the bucket for such an increase in quality of life. We can tell you the majority of people live week-to-week, regardless of their economic station, their income station in life," said Harper Peterson, a stadium opposer.
