BRUNSWICK COUNTY, N.C. — Brunswick County commissioners met Monday to discuss transportation planning across state lines.
Due to the growth in the southern part of Brunswick County, the Grand Strand planning organization was mandated to extend their boundaries to include major roadways from the state line to the Town of Shallotte.
At Monday's meeting, state Department of Transportation officials said extending their boundaries will benefit the area.
"It's going to benefit the area by making regional transportation planning better and stronger and also there's some additional federal transportation funds that will be available to the area," said NCDOT Manager Mike Bruff.
Officials say their boundaries need to be set by the end of August.
