WINTON, N.C.--An apparent domestic dispute left two people dead in Hertford County and sent a five-year-old girl to the hospital.

The Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald reports 40-year-old Catherine McCutcheon was in her house on Whitley Lane, and her husband 56-year-old James William McCutcheon Jr. lived across the street.

Police say he went to her at her house to talk to her, he then went home and came back with a gun. They say he shot and killed her and then turned the gun on himself.

A five-year-old was also shot in the incident. That child was airlifted to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, and her condition is not known.
