CHARLOTTE--Firefighters evacuated Southpark Mall because of flooding early Friday evening.

Storms passed through at about 5:00 p.m. and water rushed down one wing of the mall. Some people at the mall thought lightning had struck the building.

Charlotte Firefighters said they wanted to make sure everyone is safe first, and then they would focus on getting stores back in business.

According to Chief Jon Hannan of the Charlotte Fire Department, there are no reports of any injuries.

"As of this moment there are no reports of any injuries and no one missing, [we searched the mall twice]. The large anchor stores have not been affected by this. There is a good bit of water in the mall they had some pipes busted," said Hannan.

Mall officials have not said when the mall may reopen.
