MORRISVILLE, N.C.--A team of elementary and middle school students laced up their shoes on Sunday for a good cause in Morrisville.

S.A.S. Helping Hearts raised about $6,000 to help benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital during its second annual Walkathon.

This year's two-mile walk event also included a live band, bake sale and face painting.

Participants say being a part of the event is self-rewarding.

"I feel proud that we're doing this for a good cause and I feel good. We are helping out kids who cant do the normal things that we can," said 12-year-old Ashwin Punj.

In 2011, S.A.S. Helping Hearts raised $3,000 for Duke Children's Hospital.
