CHAPEL HILL – The full Board of Governors voted Friday to approve a tuition hike for the 17 campuses in the UNC system. The committee approved the increase Thursday. The measure means in-state undergrads will pay nearly $500 more next year.
UNC System President Tom Ross said the increase would help offset a cut of about $400 million in state funding.
UNC students marched to protest Friday's vote on the tuition hike.
Students marched to protest the tuition hikes outside of Friday's meeting. At least one person was arrested.
The plan now goes before state lawmakers for approval.
