WILMINGTON —The Wilmington City Council approved Harmony Hospitality to build a 194-room hotel at the Wilmington Convention Center.
Harmony has seven months to secure a franchise agreement with either Sheraton, Embassy Suites or comparable hotel chain and to secure financing for the project. A company representative said the project will cost between $20 million and $40 million and will benefit everyone in the city.
"It's really a no-brainer for everybody all the way around. You know with us as the developer and a hotel management company putting it up as well as the people in Wilmington. It's going to be a great win win for everyone," said Harmony Hospitality spokesperson Brooks Johnson.
The company first proposed building the hotel last spring.
