WILMINGTON — The Wilmington International Airport is expected to join more than 100 airports nationwide in using body imaging technology at its security gates.
The Wilmington Star News reports the airport should have body scanners in place by summer and the advanced imaging technology will include new software that shows a generic outline of a person's body.
The new software is being put in place by the TSA after complaints from the public that the older scanners are too invasive. In order to make room for the machines, the airport must redesign its checkpoint and food service area.
The TSA will pay for the machines but the airport has to pay $300,000 for the renovations.
