WILMINGTON – New Hanover County commissioner Brian Berger has posted bond and has been released from jail.
A judge ordered him to undergo a mental evaluation.
Authorities said Berger failed to appear in court Friday morning on charges he violated a domestic violence protection order filed by his ex-girlfriend, Heather Blaylock.
This past November, Berger attended a board meeting for a local community action group at the same building where Blaylock works. Berger claims he didn't know Blaylock worked at the building.
A judge placed Berger under a $25,000 bond and issued a mental evaluation. He's expected to appear in court on Tuesday.
