LAURINBURG, N.C. -- Sen. Kay Hagan says developing small businesses and preserving the state's traditional industries are key to job growth.
That is part of the focus of the senator's new 'North Carolina Back to Work' jobs tour which launched Friday.
Hagan toured the "Service Threads" textile industry in Scotland County, a county that has the highest unemployment rate in North Carolina, at over 16 percent.
"We want to work together to bring that number down. We want to give hope and opportunity to people that are out there looking for the jobs and that's why beginning this back to work now tour here I think is critical," said Hagan.
Senator Hagan's next planned stop on her jobs tour will be at Wake Technical Community College. The state's current unemployment rate stands at almost 10 percent.
