FAYETTEVILLE -- Tis the season to car shop. According to truecar.com the best time to look for a car is the last two weeks of the year.
"We've been admiring the Outlander sports for awhile. Love my Mitsubishi Lancer that I have now so we've decided to come down and take one for a test drive and see if we can get into one," said Fayetteville resident Wayne Clemens.
For Clemens and his wife, hearing they were car shopping at a time when they could get a good deal was a nice bonus.
"I've never actually taken advantage of it but I have heard it," he said. "Hopefully this will actually end 2011 on a bang and actually start out our 2012 well. That would be the perfect scenario."
December has been a near perfect scenario for the auto industry as well. According to JD Power and Associates and LMC Automotive, new car sales for this month are projected to finish over the 1 million mark for the first time since 2009. Retailers we spoke with have noticed an increase in sales from last year as well.
"I was in here in '08 and '09 when people were very under-confident about what was going on in the auto industry in general. Customers are getting a lot more confident. They're willing to buy, they want to buy," said Capital Auto Group Spokesperson Mark Roberts.
As the car industry tries to recover from the economic downturn, retailers are hopeful customers will continue to drive sales upward in the new year.
"I told her I'd bring her by and she could look and if she needs to sign the papers I'll sign the papers," said Sullivan.
