Cunningham steps in, Baddour steps aside at UNC
North Carolina hired Tulsa athletic director Bubba Cunningham last month as its next AD.
CHAPEL HILL -- Bubba Cunningham is settling in as North Carolina's new athletic director, while his predecessor, Dick Baddour, seems content to fade into the background with some lower-profile work.
Cunningham has been on the job for about two weeks. He's turning his attention to choosing a permanent football coach, which starts with deciding whether interim coach Everett Withers should stay after helping the Tar Heels become bowl eligible.
But Cunningham also says he plans to keep Baddour "engaged'' as he learns his way around the UNC community.
Baddour plans to focus on teaching, fundraising and other work at the university in the coming months. He says he's ready to assist when asked as the 28-sport department transitions to a new boss for the first time in 14 years.
