GREENSBORO, N.C. — Federal prosecutors are trying to prevent two former federal elections commissioners from taking the stand in the John Edwards trial.
They filed the request Monday in federal court saying Scott Thomas and Robert Lenhard should not be classified as expert witnesses. The request came the same day defense attorneys pushed for more information from prosecutors in the case.
Edwards is accused of using about $1 million of campaign money to cover up his affair with Rielle Hunter. He is also charged with helping to falsify campaign finance reports.
Edwards' trial is scheduled for Jan. 30.
