RALEIGH – The Carolina Hurricanes announced Monday that Paul Maurice was fired as head coach.

Kirk Muller, who was the head coach of the AHL's Milwaukee Admirals and has served as an assistant coach for the Montreal Canadians, was named the Hurricanes new coach. He becomes the franchise's 12th head coach, and third since it relocated to North Carolina from Hartford.

Maurice, who served twice as head coach with Carolina, amassed a record of 384-391-145 behind the Hurricanes' bench.
