GREENSBORO — Millions of people across the country are expected to log onto their computer Monday searching for deals.
It's one of the biggest online shopping days with many retailers are offering special deals to draw customers in. A record number of people are expected to buy something online during Cyber Monday.
“We're actually quite excited that Cyber Monday is here and we look forward to a couple, three very good weeks,” said Replacements Ltd. Sr. VP of E-Commerce Jack Whitley.
Replacements Ltd. starts prepping for the online holiday season months in advance. Web sales are a huge part of their success as 80 percent of their sales begin online. The company expects to have 4 million hits to their site over the month of December.
“We have something for everybody,” said Whitley. “To be able to browse that from the comfort of your own home, from your favorite chair with your favorite holiday drink is much more fun that going out and battling the crowds in the malls.”
The National Retail Federation said a record 122 million people planned to browse the web Monday. However Whitley said due to improvements in shipping and a surge in online business, the shopping will be spread out over the next few weeks.
“The Monday after Thanksgiving, it's still a big day. But the Monday after that and the Monday after that are big days as well. It's actually great because we have two or three weeks of extended activity and not just a week or two,” said Whitley.
Cyber Monday is one of the biggest online shopping days this holiday season and a lot of that has to do with the special offers. According to the National Retail Federation, eight out of 10 retailers will offer an online deal.
Last year was an important year for Cyber Monday. For the first time, sales edged higher than $1 billion dollars. It was also the heaviest online spending day in history.
