HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. – Pre-trial motions for the trial of one of the two men charged with killing former UNC student body president Eve Carson is set to begin Monday afternoon.
Laurence Lovette, 20, is accused of kidnapping, robbing and shooting Carson in Chapel Hill in March 2008. Carson was shot five times, including once in the head.
Due to extensive media coverage, jury selection will be done individually rather than as a group. That is set to begin Tuesday. Carson's parents could be called to testify.
Lovette was a minor at the time of Carson's death. If convicted, he faces life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Demario Atwater, 23, was already convicted of killing Carson and is serving a life sentence.
