WILMINGTON--The 17th annual Cucalorus Film Festival is under way in Wilmington.
The event features more than 100 independent and international films attracting people from all over the world. Over the years the festival has grown and helps continue to put Wilmington on the map as a major filming location.
A major draw is the tax incentives, atmosphere and experienced local crew.
"And that's grown since the 80's and we've just kept building and building and building and even crew who now work in LA if they can get a job here they will come home," said filmmaker Erica Dunton.
Dunton had her fifth film screened at the festival, To.Get.Her.
The Cucalorus Film Festival is expected to sell 10,000 tickets and is helping to pump $5 million into the local economy. Those funds coming from parking meters, hotels and restaurants.
This festival will represent more than a dozen countries. Tickets range from $10 all the way to $300. The festival runs through Sunday.
