WILMINGTON — A group of UNCW students, faculty, and staff took a break from classes to honor those killed on 9/11.
Nearly 1,500 Seahawks gathered to line up in a formation that represented the twin towers and the Pentagon in commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the tragedy. Each person held up the name of a victim killed in the attacks. The participants said it was a way to remember the lives lost that day.
"It's a way for us here at UNCW to show the world but in particular the families that are hurting this weekend. That we remember the people that we lost on 9/11 and also show our service men and women and local first responders that we remember the service that they put in," said UNCW Graduate Student and Alumnus Bill Hawks.
Each participant wore teal to represent school colors.
