JACKSONVILLE, N.C. – Calling all runners. The USO of North Carolina Jacksonville Center is encouraging you to sign up for the tunnel to tower run.

The run was started in New York by the family of Stephen Siller. He was a Brooklyn firefighter who was killed on 9/11 after he ran in his fire fighting gear through the Battery Tunnel toward the World Trade Center.

On the tenth anniversary of the attacks, the Steven Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation knew they had to do something special.

"They decided that they would like to do it in 343 cities across the Ynited States because that's how many first responders perished on 9/11 and Jacksonville is going to be one of them so we're partnering with them and some of the proceeds will go to the USO, " said the Director of the USO of Jacksonville Center Deb Fisher,

The Tunnel to Tower will take place in downtown Jacksonville on Saturday, Sept. 10. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and the run starts at 8:45 a.m.

The cost to register for runners or walkers is $25 in advance or $30 the day of the run.
