WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, N.C. – Students who are visually impaired caught a few waves Monday, thanks to the Indo Jax Surf Camp.

This is the third year for the week-long free camp and it continues to grow.

"For some reason, when he is out here on the water, the waves, he just feels the waves. It's like he is floating and he doesn't even know he is visually impaired. He just loves it and we've been coming here for three years and these guys at Indo Jax are just great, almost like family," said parent Mike Turco.

Surf school director Jack Viorel says it's a way to bring surfing to those who might not have a chance to do it otherwise.

"Surfing is definitely, for these kids with visual impairments, it seems like something that is completely out of the picture for them, and when they get out there and start riding waves, they realize they can do anything. Their parents realize they can do anything they put their minds to," he said.

The Indo Jax Surf Camp for the visually impaired will run all week from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at beach access 10 at Wrightsville Beach.
