RALEIGH -- Gov. Bev Perdue has returned at least $48,000 in questionable campaign donations.

Perdue says the donors, employees of Atlantic Corporation, may have been reimbursed by the company for the donations and state law prevents corporate campaign contributions and anyone from giving on behalf of someone else.

In a statement, Perdue said, "The Perdue committee is committed to maintaining the highest ethical standards. We are proud of our efforts to improve transparency and publicly disclose problems as we find them. "

The governor's campaign treasurer informed the state Board of Elections about their concerns Friday and gave the money to the board.
