CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. – Camp Lejeune Marine Maj. John Moder has been awarded a Bronze Star for his leadership during a 14-hour battle with insurgents in Afghanistan in May 2008.

Officials say his actions contributed to the seizure of a fort and that he was in constant contact with insurgents despite being the target of rocket-propelled grenades and sharp shooters.

Moder has been deployed four times since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
