JACKSONVILLE, N.C. -- Onslow County Sheriff Ed Brown says an elderly man who killed his wife and then tried to take his own life left final instructions for family members.
Curtis Hargrove, 80, remains in critical condition Thursday.
Sheriff's deputies say Hargrove visited his wife every single day she was at a Jacksonville Alzheimer's care center before killing her Tuesday night.
He then shot himself in the head but survived.
"They probably had a good marriage, at least a number of years, she had recently been admitted to the Alzheimer’s care facility, and it may just be one of those where he couldn't live without her," said Capt. Donny Worrell, of the Onslow County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies say the couple has at least one immediate family member in the Jacksonville area.
