Tennis has been the focus for Jenny Falcone since seventh grade, so much so that she ended up starting home schooling to keep up with the grueling schedule of tournaments all over the country.
“I missed a lot of school, a ton of school,” she said. “It affected me learning and being able to be in that social environment.”
And it has paid off. Falcone is ranked second in the state and in the top 60 in the nation when it comes to her recruiting class. Of course, now she has a recruiting class because she's back in school at Davidson Day School.
Last week, she walked through the halls of a real school for the first time in four years.
“Just in two weeks, I feel like the school is basically a family. Everybody knows each other, everybody loves each other,” Falcone said. “Even the teachers – I don’t I have one teacher I don’t like. I love all my teachers; they help me out with everything I’ve needed so far.”
Falcone hasn't been isolated, in fact she's been just the opposite having played in tennis tournaments against some of the best in the country. Now she has the unique chance to take her talent to a team and the Patriots are happy to have her.
“She’s just obviously a clear No. 1,” her coach said. “She makes all the girls want to strive a little harder to really reach those goals. She’s just a great asset to the team this year.”
Falcone says being on a team makes the game more fun, and the more fun she has, the better she plays.
Thursday was the first of 13 matches this season. Falcone says she plans to finish up at Davidson Day, go on to play in college and hopefully some day join the pro tour.
