CHARLOTTE -- Former Charlotte-Mecklenburg school teacher Jimmy Grubbs will serve 20 years in federal prison.
Grubbs, 66, who taught language arts at Bradley Middle School in Huntersville, was sentenced Wednesday afternoon on various sexual assault charges.
"It's been difficult,” said one of Grubb’s victims, “a lot of grief. I've struggled with ways to try and escape [and] eventually [was] diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder linked to this abuse."

Grubbs pleaded guilty in September 2006 to 12 counts of sexual assault involving minors.
"His crimes were unrelenting and heartless…,” said Judge Robert Conrad. “Our community trusted him as a teacher/coach. You perverted that trust."
Federal prosecutors said Grubbs took children from North Carolina to Myrtle Beach and Columbia between 2002 and 2006 with the intent to engage in sexual activity.
