CHAPEL HILL--A UNC football player is facing assault charges after a late night scuffle in Chapel Hill.
Nick Weiler, 18, was charged with felony assault, simple assault and resisting arrest, as well as having a fake ID card.
Authorities said he got in a fight with two men in a parking deck on East Rosemary Street around 3:00 a.m. and knocked one man's teeth out.
UNC officials said the redshirt freshman kicker has been suspended indefinitely.
UNC football fans and students say the Sunday morning arrest of a football player is not a representation of the entire team.
It's the latest incident that's put UNC football program in the headlines negatively following an academic scandal, but fans and students say they stand by their team.
"Absolutely it'll pass, time heals all wounds and cures all ills so absolutely it'll pass.," said Scott Barrett.
Weiler was released on bail and will make his first appearance in Orange County court on Monday.
