RALEIGH – Officials say rains from Tropical Storm Debby could top 2 feet in Florida over the next few days. The slow-moving storm has been stalled over the Gulf Coast since the weekend.
Some 35,000 business in the Tampa Bay area are without power and the storm has been blamed for one death.
Heavy rains from the storm also flooded streets throughout Savannah, Ga.
The National Hurricane Center predicts Debby will make landfall late Wednesday along Florida's northwestern Gulf Coast. The system is expected to weaken to a tropical depression on Thursday then strengthen back to a tropical storm as it moves into the Atlantic Ocean this weekend.
