RALEIGH – Funeral services will be held for a North Carolina-native and soldier. Army Corporal Darrion Hicks was killed by an improvised explosive device on July 19 in Afghanistan.

The 21-year-old attended Broughton High School in Raleigh. Friends and family gathered at Raleigh Memorial Auditorium Wednesday morning to say their final goodbyes.

Wake County superintendent Tony Tata had this to say about the former student; “All of us in Wake County mourn the loss of a man who inspired his fellow students and made our community better through his leadership, and today, his memory and sacrifice make our nation a better place."

Hicks will be buried at Raleigh National Cemetery
