CARY, N.C. -- Some active and former military members were screaming for ice cream in Cary Friday. It 's all part of the Scoops for Troops Social and Family Day at the downtown performance green sponsored by the town, the USO and several other organizations.

Visitors got a chance to send postcards to troops, listen to live music and take part in an ice cream eating contest. Organizers say the men and women fighting to preserve our freedom should never be forgotten.

"You know, I think that it's important to always remember the people that are out there fighting for the way of like that we hold so dear," said Cary Festivals Coordinator Joy Ennis. "Especially here in Cary, we're so blessed and we just wanna make sure that we remember that."

The public also had a chance to get a close up look at military vehicles during the event.
