CHARLOTTE β A funeral is scheduled Saturday in Florida for a Charlotte soldier who died last month in Afghanistan.
Junot Cochilus was killed by an IED on May 2. The 34-year-old Haitian immigrant moved to the United States with almost nothing. His pastor says Cochilus was influenced to join the Army after seeing what soldiers had done for his people.
"Because of what the military has done in Haiti, that impacted his life,β said . βHe wanted to come here, not only to serve in the Army but also to serve for this country."
Telfort says Cochilus planned to complete his service then return to Haiti to be a full-time missionary.
He'll be buried in the National Cemetery in Jacksonville.
