CHARLOTTE--The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is investigating an east Charlotte shooting that left one person dead Saturday night.

It happened just after 10:00 p.m. along the 8600 block of Lawyers Road.

When officers with CMPD arrived on scene, they found the victim lying on the road, suffering from gunshot wounds.

A soon as medics with Mint Hill Fire and Rescue arrived, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The name of that victim has not been released and police said the car in which the victim was an occupant did remain at the scene, but other occupants who were in the vehicle ran from the scene.

A second vehicle involved in the incident fled the scene.

Detectives began interviewing witnesses out on Laywers Road on Saturday night and will continue to interview additional witnesses at police headquarters.

No details have been release on a suspect or suspects, or what led to this shooting.
