NEW BERN, N.C.--Craven County has a come a long way from 1712.
This weekend, the county celebrated the people, places and events that have shaped its 300th anniversary.
"It's gone from a rural area to basically with New Bern city being one of the most attractive cities in the south," said Craven County Commissioner Thomas Mark.
Visitors to the New Bern Convention Center could find everything they'd ever want to know about Craven County.
For instance, the county has seven districts and each one is distinct with it its own rich heritage.
"Our idea was to have the people know the different communities in the county, what the history of those communities were and I think we've done a very good job of bringing that out," said Mark.
Once known mainly for farming and agriculture, tourism has emerged as a key player in this historic southern city.
This weekend, newcomers and natives alike were reminded of the history of the area and how modernization has carried it into the 21st century.
