Driver faces DWI charges after multi-car crash in High Point

HIGH POINT -- A driver faces charges of speeding, DWI and a number of other violations after a multi-car crash on US 311 in High Point Tuesday morning.
Police say 25-year-old Mekaeel Byrd was speeding near Skeet Club Road when he crashed into a Toyota 4runner driven by 57-year-old Robert Halter of Kernsersville. They say Halter lost control, crossed the median and flipped over into the northbound lanes.
Police say a minivan driven by 41-year-old Richard O'Neal of Asheboro crashed into Halter along with a Cadillac. driven by 28-year-old Adam Craig of Winston-Salem. Halter was taken to the hospital with multiple fractures to his hand and foot, along with cuts to his face. Byrd suffered minor head injuries.
He's been given a $5,000 bond with a written promise to appear in court. No one else was seriously hurt.
