SOUTHERN PINES, N.C.--For the fourth year in a row, North Carolina is home to an All-America City.
Southern Pines won the honor at a National Civic League ceremony in Denver.
The town is known as a hidden southern gem and residents, like the Anderson's, know it and say they don't anyone else to know.
"We're just worried somebody else is gonna find out what a great town this is," said resident Robert Anderson.
This was given away on Monday, when the town became one of 14 winners of the All-America City award, which recognizes civic engagement and public/private sector collaboration.
This year's award on communities creating programs to increase youth literacy.
"We've got a long term plan, we hope to see an increase in the number of students testing out by the end of 3rd grade, every year between now and 2020. Ultimately we have the desire that we start reaching that 90-95% level that everybody would like to see," said Southern Pines Town Manager Reagan Parsons.
People who live in Southern Pines are certainly proud of the town, and of the award.
"It would be hard to find somebody who lives here who doesn't say that they love it," said Parsons.
