SALISBURY, N.C. -- Monday night's Rowan County Board Meeting brought a several unresolved issues. One of those is whether the county should rejoin the Charlotte Regional Partnership.

CRP CEO Ronnie Bryant spoke Monday night indicating several economic development projects Rowan County could benefit from through the partnership.

"And they would have an opportunity to try and land those projects,” said Bryant.

Projects he says could spur new job and investment opportunities for the county. Despite that, Chairman Chad Mitchell said commissioners have concerns with CRP procedures, especially Bryant’s $64,000 bonus last year on top of his $258,000 salary.

"If we're going to be a member of an organization, we expect them to have certain procedures in place and then we expect those procedures are followed," said Mitchell.

Mitchell says Bryant received the highest awarded bonus, 25 percent, from the CRP despite a less-than-stellar performance generating leads and visits from companies across the region.

"We didn't feel any bonus at all would be applicable," said Mitchell.

And in addition to paying $40,000, the CRP is also asking Rowan County to pay last year's dues in order to rejoin. As the county budget stands now, Rowan County will only renew their membership if last year's dues are forgiven.

"We, at this particular time, are not privy to making those discussions public," said Bryant.

Bryant says discussions are ongoing leading up to the county's next board meeting Monday, when both the board and CRP are expected to reach a compromise.
