HIGH POINT, N.C. -- Medical diagnostics company Solstas Lab Partners will put more people to work in High Point. The company provides anatomical, clinical and esoteric testing services.

Solstas is currently headquartered in Guilford County. It has more than 1,750 employees across the state. The High Point facility employs more than 720 full-time workers.

"High Point was a natural fit for our expansion," said Solstas CEO David Weavil. "Simply put, the energy and experience of the medical workforce here is exceptional, and meets our needs for a best-in-class organization."

Wednesday, Weavil joined Gov. Bev Perdue for the official announcement of the expansion plans. Leaders say the new jobs will be in IT, human resources and laboratory technology. They are skilled positions that average about $45,000 annually.

Perdue said training from the area's community colleges and universities could help Solstas' growing workforce.

"Education and economic development in our state are hand in glove," said Perdue. "You can't separate them. You do not have a healthy economy, you don't have job growth like we are having without a great public school system, a community college and university."

Grants and $1 million incentive package helped lure Solstas to High Point. The incentives package will be paid to Solstas Lab Partners over the next four years as the company meets its employment benchmarks.
