Charlotte Motor Speedway owner Bruton Smith says a report about a possible move of one of the track's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races is false. After about three-years of negotiations, the Winston-Salem City Council on Monday voted 5-2, approving the sale of the Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum to Wake Forest University. The council also unanimously approved an intent to sell Bowman Gray Stadium to Winston-Salem State University.

The state Senate's $21 billion spending plan, which includes a 2.3 percent increase in spending for the state, is expected to move through committee this week. The 2.3 percent increase in spending would include about $1 billion to control Medicaid costs and about $53 million for education reform.
